Whitby Lifeboat Museum
Overview
A stark reminder that Whitby’s success was built on the perils of the sea, the Lifeboat Museum is small but full of interest. It’s star is the self-righting lifeboat of 1919, the Robert and Ellen Robson – you can usually see its vivid orange, high-tech and all-weather modern successor, George and Mary Webb, in the harbour.

About the area
North Yorkshire, with its two National Parks and two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is England’s largest county and one of the most rural. This is prime walking country, from the heather-clad heights of the North York Moors to the limestone country that is so typical of the Yorkshire Dales – a place of contrasts and discoveries, of history and legend.
