Bantry House & Garden
"A beautiful country house with a delightful ornate garden."
Overview
Bantry House, situated overlooking Bantry Bay, is the ancestral home of the Earls of Bantry – the house is still lived in by the direct descendants of the 1st Earl of Bantry. The garden was inspired by travels of the 2nd Earl and is laid out in the Italian style over seven terraces – the house sits on the third terrace. A south-facing parterre surrounds a wisteria circle with a fountain at its centre; from here rise the famous Hundred Steps, a staircase built of local stone, set amidst azaleas and rhododendrons.
About the area
Cork is Ireland’s southernmost county, and is also the largest. There’s a lot of coastline, most of which is rocky and dramatic, but there are some amazing beaches, like Barleycove, Inchydoney and Owenahincha.
