Lakemount Garden
"A garden for the seasons, full of interest."
Overview
Peggy Cross first began creating the garden in the 1950s on a site overlooking the River Lee, protected from the relentless wind by trees and shrubs. The garden has been described as ‘a garden for all seasons’ – visit in spring to the see the colourful rhododendrons, azaleas and pieris, in summer for the herbaceous plants, and in autumn for the hydrangeas, agapanthus, nerines and acers. No matter what the month, there are always plants of interest and exciting planting designs to see. The garden is not open for individual viewings, but welcomes groups and events; by appointment only.
About the area
Cork is Ireland’s southernmost county, and is also the largest. There’s a lot of coastline, most of which is rocky and dramatic, but there are some amazing beaches, like Barleycove, Inchydoney and Owenahincha.
