Dhu Varren Garden
Overview
Dhu Varren Garden, owned by Mark and Laura Collins, has one of the largest and most diverse plant collections in a private garden in Ireland. Begun in 2001 and on a 2.5 acre site, it has been extensively landscaped to create appropriate environments for plants from all around the world that would not naturally be found at this latitude. Tender plants flourish in the glasshouses; one is home to tropical butterflies in summer months. The Japanese garden has a Koi carp pond. Mark or Laura are always on hand to answer any questions about the garden and guided tours are available if booked in advance. Plants are available for sale in the nursery.
About the area
Ireland’s most easterly county, Kerry, features a coastline of many inlets and peninsulas. It’s also home to the country’s highest mountains – the three peaks of the quaintly-named MacGillycuddy's Reeks range; highest first, they are Carrauntoohil, Beenkeragh and Caher.
