Hunting Brook Gardens
Overview
Situated in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains, Hunting Brook Gardens is the creation of Jimi Blake, the noted Irish horticulturist, teacher and plantsman. Jimi’s contemporary garden is full of theatrical large-scale, colourful plantings that fill the sunny beds and steep banks. In the ‘secret’ shady gorge at the bottom of the garden runs a mountain stream that tumbles over granite rocks and through peaceful woodland. Paths take visitors along and over this stream then uphill to a wild meadow where a Bronze Age standing stone can be found. A variety of gardening and wellbeing workshops are held including courses run by Jimi.
About the area
The combination of a well-preserved monastic settlement with a beautiful lake and mountain setting makes Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains one of eastern Ireland’s premier attractions.
The reclusive St Kevin first established a monastic presence in this glacial valley in AD 570.
