Overview
The Castle is currently home to the Duke of Argyll, Head of the Clan Campbell, whose family have lived in Inveraray since the 15th century. Designed by Roger Morris and decorated by Robert Mylne, the fairytale exterior belies the grandeur of the gracious interior. The Armoury Hall contains some 1300 pieces including Brown Bess muskets, Lochaber axes, 18th-century Scottish broadswords, and swords from the Battle of Culloden. Other rooms contain fine French tapestries, Scottish, English and French furniture, and a wealth of other works of art. There is also a unique collection of china, silver and family artefacts.
