Kinloch Historical Society Museum and Archive
"Learn everything about Kinloch at this fascinating local museum."
Overview
Founded in 1983 to document the social and domestic history of Kinloch, the museum has been gathering historic artefacts ever since. There are two display rooms: The first depicts life as it was in the early 20th century, with a focus on crofting, fishing, education, religion, weaving, smithing, and healthcare. The second room shifts focus to the two World Wars and their effect on the region, including the Iolaire disaster of 1919. Other topics explored are emigration from the region; Donald Macrae (former headmaster of Balallan School) and his part in the Pairc Deer Raid of 1887; and the Clan Mackenzie, whose rich history in the area goes back to the early 17th century.

About the area
Apart from the Orkneys and the Shetlands, Highland is Scotland’s northernmost county. Probably its most famous feature is the mysterious and evocative Loch Ness, allegedly home to an ancient monster that has embedded itself in the world’s modern mythology, and the region’s tourist industry.
