Blackness Castle
Overview
This was once one of the most important fortresses in Scotland. Used as a state prison during covenanting times and in the late 19th century as a powder magazine, it was one of four castles left fortified by the Articles of Union. Most impressive are the massive 17th-century artillery emplacements.
