Overview
Set in 260 acres, House of the Binns is an example of changing architectural tastes from 1612 onwards, reflecting the transition from fortified stronghold to spacious mansion. The original three-storey building, with small windows and twin turrets, evolved into a fine crenellated house with beautiful moulded plaster ceilings - the ancestral home of the Dalyell family. Also there is a secret passage and a 14th-century bakehouse, as well as magnificent displays of snowdrops and daffodils in spring.
