Cefn Coed Colliery Museum

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
The museum is on the site of a former working colliery, and tells the story of mining in the Dulais Valley. A steam winding engine has been kept and is now operated by electricity, and there is also a simulated underground mining gallery, boilerhouse, compressor house, and exhibition area. Outdoor exhibits include a stationary colliery locomotive. Exhibitions relating to the coal mining industry are held on a regular basis. The museum is now home to the Dulais Valley Historical Model Railway Society who, with the help from the Heritage Lottery Fund have created an ever increasing layout depicting the Neath-Brecon railway through the valley. See the refurbished Hunslett engine on its own track and one of the last remaining gas powered trams in the world.
