AA Rosette Restaurants to celebrate the Lunar New Year

Discover the best Chinese restaurants to welcome in the Lunar New Year in style!

Celebrating the Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year is a time of celebration and new beginnings, marking the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Thought to have originated in ancient China around 3,500 years ago, the Lunar New Year is also celebrated across Korea, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam. Based on the lunar calendar, Chinese New Year falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice, and so this year the Lunar New Year will begin on 29th January, bringing in the Year of the Snake.

Among the many cultural traditions performed during the holiday, such as chucheng (cleaning your house to remove dust and bad luck) and decorating with lucky red items, certain food including fish, dumplings and Tangyuan (sweet rice balls) is also associated with luck for the new year. A meal at one of our AA-rated, Rosette-award-winning restaurants is an ideal way to connect with family and friends to celebrate and welcome in the Lunar New Year.
