A walk from Weobley
Leaving the car park, go left and left again past the church. Continue beside the burial ground and swing right. At the next bend go forward on a track. Stay with it as it later curves right, but where it subsequently bends left, keep ahead through a gap into a field. Follow a power line across the field, leaving through a kissing gate onto a lane.
Go right. After 300yds (274m) look for a stile beside a gate on the left into an orchard. Follow waymarks along an avenue between the trees, passing an ancient oak. After a further 20yds (18m), watch for a waymark directing the path half-left across the rows of trees. Through a gate, keep the same line across two fields, leaving onto a lane.
Follow it right for nearly 0.75 miles (1.2km) through Weobley Marsh. Beyond the turn to Kings Pyon and 50yds (46m) after a brick cottage, go over a stile in the left hedge. Strike across to a stile just left of the far-right field corner. Turn right by the hedge for 10yds (9m) to a footbridge. Over that, follow a narrow passage to come out onto the end of a lane. Walk left to a junction and go left again.
After 100yds (91m), go through a break in the hedge opposite Arrow Cottage. Head away by the left edge to another lane. Go right to a T-junction and then left. At the next T-junction turn left again. Walk 30yds (27m) then take a track off right through a wooded strip to the field behind, a kissing gate on the left bypassing a locked gate. The track runs away, later climbing a low rise and passing through a couple of gates. Immediately beyond the second, bear half right across the field, making for the left end of a tall brick wall. Exit over a planked ditch onto a track.
Go right, passing through a gate to continue at the edge of pasture. Swing left at the end to a kissing gate and head along a green track towards Weobley’s church. Ignore a crossing track and carry on to a gate.
Bear slightly right to pick up a trod across a pasture. Through a kissing gate, continue along a grass track, cutting across the moat and earthwork defences of Weobley’s castle. Beyond, leave through a gate and walk out to a street at the top of Weobley. The Throne and the old grammar school can be found to the right, past the New Unicorn Inn and round a left bend. The way back to the car park, however, lies ahead down the main street and then left down Bell Square.
