Horsham's countryside and Denne Park
From the car park turn left to the crossroads and bear left into pedestrianised East Street. At the next crossroads go left into Market Square and pass to the left of the battlemented and turreted Town Hall. Beyond you pass into The Causeway. It leads to the parish church, first passing Horsham Museum, a pale green rendered and gabled Tudor house.
Skirt left of the parish church of St Mary, keep to the right of the houses and leave the churchyard on a path to the right of The Lodge to keep ahead on a tarmacked track across a footbridge, then along the edge of a semi-wooded area and alongside a cricket field to cross the railway line on a footbridge. Continue ahead past a footpath post, bearing half right to ascend to the corner of the field. Through the hedge gap continue ahead alongside a deep sunken way with the woods on your left. The path passes through the edge of the woods and through a ramshackle kissing gate emerging at crest level. Head for a footpath post ahead.
Now in Denne Park bear quarter right as waymarked from the footpath post, then half right at the next signpost, heading well to the right of the house, to find a kissing gate. Through this, cross the drive to Denne Park House enjoying the view of its facade, to a footpath post. Continue ahead across a golf course and at a footpath post bear half left to skirt the golf club buildings. Join the access drive beyond briefly and where it bends right keep forward, soon alongside a laurel hedge to a gravel parking area by a barn-like house.
Continue ahead following signposts, between fences and over a footbridge. Carry along the woodland edge for 150yds (137m), then opposite where a track enters woodland on the left go half right across the gold course, following signposts, over a stone slab footbridge to a four-way signpost where you turn left into a green lane between hedgerow trees, a public byway. Follow this and keep right at the next track junction.
Emerge onto a road and turn left along it past King’s Farm and where the road bears right go left onto the public bridleway. Past a gate the lane becomes a footpath and crosses a field. Continue, now within the edge of Denne Park’s woods. Carry along following bridleway signposts and ignoring footpaths signposted from it. Eventually the back of Chesworth Farm appears away to the left, then the track crosses a bridge over a narrow lake.
At the track junction just after this bridge go left signed 'public bridleway' and follow the track past Chesworth Farm where you may see unusual breeds of farm animals, such as pygmy goats and llamas. Just past the buildings turn left on a lane at a bridleway signpost to continue along the lane, the church spire ahead. Continue ahead, cross a bridge over a stream, carry forward along Chesworth Lane and pass under a railway bridge, now on the outskirts of Horsham. At Denne Road bear right and back to the car park.
