Polesworth and the Coventry Canal

Walk directions

From the car park at Hall Court, walk towards The Red Lion and left into Bridge Street, walking towards the bridge. After about 95 paces, turn left by a shop into an alleyway that leads to a public footpath junction and turn right to take the path signed to the River Anker. Cross the footbridge over the river, then another, and bear left through the pleasant gardens, keeping by the river bank on a footpath. Leave the river and head for a sports pavilion. Beyond it turn left on a path beside the bowling green that arcs gently right towards ridge No. 51 over the Coventry Canal. Descend to the canal and turn left along its pleasant tow path, which you now follow for the next 1.5 miles (2.4km). Before walking beneath the railway line look up to your right and on the far bank you will see the obelisk on Hoo Hill. Stiper’s Hill is visible to the left. Continue beneath the main electrified railway line and follow the tow path

Leave the Coventry Canal’s tow path when you get to bridge No. 49 and ascend to the road, going left over the canal bridge and generally northwest past Kitchen’s Bridge Cottage. Soon after passing the cottage, look out for a signposted gap in a hedge on the left and proceed through this to cross the footbridge over the railway line via two stiles. Now climb the hill, passing through the farm gate to the left of the buildings of Dordon Hall Farm, and continue up to the road. Over a stile, go left along the road, then soon turn right when you reach a road junction, following the signpost to Dordon. This will take you along Dunn’s Lane into the village.
