Overview
The world’s first publicly funded park, Birkenhead Park opened in 1847. Designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, it was the inspiration for parks around the globe including New York’s Central Park. A conservation area with several listed buildings, it is now home to two large fishing lakes, bowling greens, cricket and football pitches and a large children’s adventure playground.
