Warm tones and textures, beams, leather seating, eye-catching lighting and displays of heritage items create an engaging authentic vibe at this hot-shot Mexican, KOL, its atmosphere reinforced by a centrepiece open kitchen. Uptempo, happening, yet relaxed, Lastra’s kitchen turns out labour-intensive, super-modern dishes on tasting menus (with a choice at mains) that express Mexican culture and innovation through British ingredients, while also championing wild foods and seasonality. Bright, fresh, colourful flavours dance on the palette and there's elegant presentation throughout, with chilli used hyper-skilfully; take dishes like the knockout savoury version of nicoatole, butternut squash, scotch bonnet and British caviar, or natilla of scallop, chicken skin, egg yoke and truffle.
