Britain’s National Parks are the jewels in the crown of the countryside. They represent the finest protected landscapes in England, Wales and Scotland – from the sylvan beauties of the New Forest on the south coast, to the semi-arctic wilderness of the Cairngorms, and from the glorious coastline of Pembrokeshire and the craggy heights of Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons in the west, to the winding wetlands of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads in the east.

In between are the challenging ‘Great Escapes’ provided by the mountains and moorlands of the Lake District, the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and Northumberland, while the gentler contours of the South West – Dartmoor and Exmoor – offer rich prehistoric remains and glorious wooded valleys.

The Peak District National Park was the first, designated in 1950, while the most recent, – the South Downs which includes the Seven Sisters, Beachy Head and the South Downs Way – was  designated in 2010.
