Our View

This is Scotland's oldest free lending public library, founded in 1680. This Georgian library (1762) with its associated school (1847), chapel (1508) and castle form an early complete group of educational and religious buildings. It houses the original 400 books in English, French, German, Latin and Italian presented by David Drummond, Lord Madertie, the Library's founder. It also has books on law, history, geography, maths and works by most of the Enlightenment authors. There are research facilities available, special events throughout the year.
