Overview
St Mary's House is an enchanting medieval house with fine panelled interiors, including the unique Elizabeth 'Painted Room'. There is plenty of interesting family memorabilia, alongside a rare Napoleonic collection, English costume dolls, and a traditional cottage style tea room. The five acres of grounds include formal gardens with an amusing topiary, an exceptional example of the prehistoric tree Ginkgo biloba and a Victorian 'Secret' Garden. Other attractions include 140ft original fruit wall and pineapple pits, a Rural Museum, the Jubilee Rose Garden, Terracotta Garden, the King's Garden, an unusual circular Poetry Garden, a woodland walk and Landscape Water Garden with island and waterfall. In the heart of the South Downs National Park, St Mary's is a house of fascination, mystery, and picturesque charm.
