Lawrence House Museum
Overview
Built in 1753, Lawrence House is leased to Launceston Town Council and used as a local museum and civic centre. The collections are spread over three floors with exhibits that focus predominantly on local history including Launceston's intriguing association with Australia. There are many activities and exhibits: local history, war, model railway, toys, and agriculture. Also featured are Launceston's famous men: astronomer John Couch Adams; Philip Gidley King, who sailed on the HMS Sirius, a ship that accompanied the first fleet of convicts sent to Australia; poet Charles Causley and William Wise's herbarium. On top of that are a working Polyphon, a costume collection, a Victorian kitchen and a garden with fine views.
