Housed in a building that is the only surviving town gasworks in England, complete with all the apparatus needed to turn coal into gas, this museum offers a fascinating account of local social history. You can see original purifiers and condensers, and displays about heating, lighting and cooking through the decades. The town’s gasworks closed in 1965.
