"Confident cooking and lakeside views."
Overview
After working up an appetite on The Samling’s 67 acres, the elegant 18th-century house offers diners yet more majestic panoramas of Lake Windermere and surrounding landscapes through floor-to-ceiling windows in its contemporary dining room. The open-plan space has a crisp, understated look with Lakeland slate to reflect the setting, a neutral colour palette, well-spaced tables clothed in crisp linen and smartly uniformed staff to give the restaurant a hint of formality. The modern food is rooted in classical technique and many of the seasonal materials come from the hotel’s greenhouse, gardens and woodland. Ingredients are combined in stimulating and full-flavoured ways, as in an opening dish of veal sweetbreads with truffle and a rich and creamy wild mushroom risotto. Show more

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills
