Port Gaverne
"The freshest local fish and seafood"
Overview
This delightful 17th-century inn in pretty Port Gaverne overlooks the secluded cove where women once loaded sea-bound ketches with slate from Delabole's great quarry. With the slate industry long gone, the inn today reaps the reward of being right on the South West Coastal Path, most of whose walkers are ready for a thirst-quenching Cornish-brewed Skinner’s Betty Stogs real ale, Rattler cider or a refreshing glass of wine, in the slate-floored, low-beamed bar or small beer garden. Locally supplied produce includes plenty of fresh fish; Porthilly mussels; and Port Isaac lobster thermidor. Not everything is from the Atlantic, of course, so look out for braised venison, juniper and ale pie, smoked butter mash and red cabbage; or charcoal-grilled pork T-bone steak with peppercorn sauce. Finish with blueberry and ginger steamed pudding and custard.
