Discover the Inner Hebrides
Exploring the Inner Hebrides
As the name implies, the Inner Hebrides is closer to the Scottish mainland; part of an archipelago off the west coast. It is made up of 35 inhabited islands and 44 uninhabited islands. Skye, Mull, and Islay are the three largest, and also have the largest populations. The island with the least inhabitants is Rùm with around 30 inhabitants, which is a contrast to Skye which has about 10,000. The main commercial activities are tourism, crofting, fishing and whisky distilling, so the islands are a perfect place to find a slower way of life.
