Acorn Bank Garden and Watermill

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
Best known for its comprehensive herb collection and traditional fruit orchards, Acorn Bank also has a fascinating industrial past. At the tea-room, culinary herbs and fruit from the garden are used daily in soups, salads and puddings. If you wander along the Crowdundle Beck to the partially restored watermill, enjoying wildlife in the woods on the way, you can discover more about the history of gypsum mining on the estate. There are also splendid views across the Eden Valley to the Lake District from the magnificent backdrop of the sandstone house.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
