Holehird Gardens
Overview
The Lakeland Horticultural Society's 17 acre garden is maintained by its members who are all volunteers. It lies on a splendid hillside site with stream gardens and rocky outcrops looking to Windermere and the Langdale Pikes. The garden includes specimen trees and flowering shrubs for all seasons. Among the highlights are autumn daboecia heather and shrubs, spring bulbs and alpines. There are also national collections of astilbe, meconopsis and polystichum, as well as fine herbaceous borders, herbs and climbers. The Lakeland Horticultural Society was founded in 1969.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
