Rainham Hall (NT)
Overview
Standing proudly in the heart of Rainham village, picturesque Rainham Hall is a particularly fine example of Queen Anne architecture. Using the finest materials he could lay hands on, Captain John Harle built the house and its cluster of associated buildings to provide a focal point for his merchant trading activities, which themselves were instrumental in the growth and development of Rainham village in the 18th century. At that time the River Thames was the gateway to the world and helped transform London into the international city it is today. Features at the house include fireplaces lined with rare Delft tiles, a stable block and coach house, Victorian-style dog kennels and peaceful three-acre gardens. The buildings have recently been completely renovated.
