Overview
The small community at Mapledurham includes the house, a watermill and a church. The fine Elizabethan mansion, surrounded by quiet parkland that runs down to the River Thames, was built by the Blount family in the 16th century. The estate has literary connections with the poet Alexander Pope, with Galsworthy's Forsyte Saga and Kenneth Graham's Wind in the Willows, and was a location for the 1976 film, The Eagle has Landed. Open-air theatre is a summer feature.
