Benthall Hall

Recommended by Visit England Logo
Overview
Benthal Hall has been the home of the Benthall family since it was built in the 16th century, but they lived here long before that, right back to the Saxon period. The Hall contains fine mullioned and transomed windows, a carved oak staircase, decorated plaster ceilings and tiled floors laid by George Maw, a local tile manufacturer. During the Civil War the Hall was seized by Parliamentarian forces and run as a garrison. It was attacked by Royalists, but they did not retake the property. The garden is ideal for a relaxing walk, and features a Restoration church, a restored plantman's garden and an old kitchen garden. A new tea room has recently opened.
