Lion & Pheasant Hotel
"Boutique hotel luxury in historic market town."
Overview
The handsome façade of this family-owned hotel and free house graces medieval Wyle Cop, shortly before the street becomes English Bridge over the River Severn. A coolly elegant look is evident throughout, from the ground floor public areas to the spacious, well-equipped bedrooms upstairs. Just off the reception is the wood-floored café-style bar, which leads to the flagstoned Inglenook Bar, serving locally brewed Salopian Shropshire Gold, an extensive choice of cocktails and gins and a full range of main meals and snacks. On the first floor is the split-level restaurant, serving dishes such as gin-cured salmon, tonic cucumber, citrus purée and coriander; pork fillet, beer glazed pig's cheek, goats' cheese polenta, carrot, apricot and pork jus; and coconut panna cotta with macadamia crumb, lime and lemonade gel and mango salsa. Next door the hotel has extended into Ernest & Co wine bar serving small plates and tapas.

About the area
Perhaps nowhere else in England will you find a county so deeply rural and with so much variety as Shropshire. Choose a clear day, climb to the top of The Wrekin, and look down on that ‘land of lost content’ so wistfully evoked by A E Housman.
