With your back to the Guildhall Museum on South Street turn left and walk the short distance along to the busy road junction. Turn right and cross the road bridge over the River Witham, also known as The Haven through the town centre, then go right on to High Street. Walk along this all the way to the end and re-cross the river to reach the entrance to Market Place.

Turn left, past the Assembly Rooms, down the narrow Church Street. Turn left to cross the stylish new footbridge and on the far bank go immediately right, signposted ‘Marina’. Follow this route alongside the river opposite St Botolph’s Church, which becomes a pleasant surfaced path beside houses.

About the area
Much of the fenland around the Wash has been drained of its marshes and reclaimed as highly productive farmland. Further north, the coastline, with its sandy beaches, has been developed to accommodate the holiday industry, with caravans, campsites and the usual seaside paraphernalia.
