"Zero plastic shop and zero gas site. "
Overview
The aptly named Quiet Site is a top sustainable park where guests can savour the stunning views of Ullswater and surrounding fells. Located at the top of the park are fabulous glamping options – posh camping pods and cabins, unique Glamping Burrows (Hobbit Holes), and quirky Gingerbread Houses – all built by owner Daniel Holder and his on-site team. Virtually invisible within the gorgeous Lake District landscape, unless you know where to look, the Burrows are large underground living spaces with en suite shower rooms and amazing views over the Ullswater Valley; all are very secure, superbly insulated by soil and grass, and very energy efficient. Equally unusual are the Gingerbread Houses which are carbon positive spaces with photovoltaic (PV) panelled roofs, triple insulation and ground-source heating. They are surrounded by 'ginger' beech hedges. Guests staying in the Burrows or Gingerbread Houses are required to bring their own cutlery, plates and mugs, and bedding. There is a zero-waste shop, an authentic bar in a 16th-century barn, the Quiet Bite for breakfast bacon rolls and evening pizzas, and a smartly refurbished amenity block with excellent fully-serviced cubicles.

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
