Overview
Herstmonceux Castle sits behind a moat and is set in 600 acres of beautiful parkland and superb Elizabethan gardens. Among the pleasures to be found in the grounds are the Shakespeare Garden, Chestnuts Tea Room and the Visitors Centre where you can take a break, learn about the history of the castle and relax before taking a gentle stroll around the formal gardens. Look out for Woodhenge, 300-year old chestnut trees, a folly, and secret garden, as well as the chance to walk around the lake and the moat. The castle's main function is as the UK campus of Queen’s University (Canada), however guided tours are conducted at an extra charge and subject to availability.
