Abbot Hall Art Gallery
Overview
The Gallery is housed in one of Kendal's most important buildings; a Grade I listed Georgian Villa on the banks of the River Kent. The Gallery offers two floors of light-filled spaces, a temporary exhibition programme that has achieved a national profile, and the permanent collection of works by George Romney spanning his entire career. The upstairs galleries feature commanding views of the River Kent and Kendal Castle and show works by major British artists. Various exhibitions planned throughout the year, please check website for details. Photo credits: exterior - Tony West; outside the gallery & The Saloon - Florence Acland

About the area
Cumbria's rugged yet beautiful landscape is best known for the Lake District National Park that sits within its boundaries. It’s famous for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Derwent Water, ‘Queen of the English Lakes', but other lesser-known areas in the south, such as the Lune Valley and the coastal towns, are secret gems of wide cobbled streets and rolling hills.
