"West Country ales in a smart former fisherman’s pub"
Overview
Hit a six from here and the ball would land in Start Bay, just across the road. Over the years, the inn has survived storms, a World War II bomb that destroyed the adjacent cottages and killed seven villagers, and a mud slide that passed through from back to front.  Mercifully catastrophe free since then, it concentrates on maintaining its reputation as a favoured foodie pub, providing starters such as salt and pepper prawns; and chicken parfait with red onion marmalade and walnut salad. Memorable mains include Josper-grilled whole fresh fish, lobster and chargrills, not to mention chef's signature seafood pancake in a rich creamy sauce. New England-style bedrooms look east over the bay.
