Overview
The Octagon Tower of Ely Cathedral can be seen for miles as it rises above the surrounding flat fenland. A monastery was founded on the site by St Etheldreda in 673, but the present cathedral church dates from 1083 and is a magnificent example of Romanesque architecture. Choral music is a big attraction at the Cathedral, and visitors can hear Evensong at 5.30pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and 4pm on a Sunday.
