Carisbrooke’s castle
Face Carisbrooke Priory, turn left out of the car park and follow the road for 220yds (201m). Take the first footpath on the left (opposite Carisbrooke Business Park) and veer left past a gate after a few paces, climbing gently through the trees. On reaching the magnificent ruins of Carisbrooke Castle, bear left and follow the path alongside the castle walls.
Turn left at the car park and follow the public footpath, signposted towards Millers Lane, until you reach Clatterford Shute. Turn right, keep left at the fork with Millers Lane and continue for 50yds (46m) to a kissing gate on the left.
Go through the gate, cross a footbridge and turn left, following footpath N104 towards Bowcombe. Walk through the boggy water meadow to a stile and keep going through the pastures, crossing two more stiles, as far as the final gap at the T-junction level with Plaish Farm.
Turn left here and follow the muddy, hedged bridleway. Walk on round the left curve and on to a junction. Dodge right, then left and keep ahead onto the lane at Froglands Farm.
Bear right at the junction by Frosthill Cottage and walk up the quiet Froglands Lane, with great views to the castle on your left. Bear left at the top of the lane and follow the roadside verge back to the car park.
