Overview
When flooded in winter there are big flocks of Bewick's swans and other swans, ducks and geese. It is an excellent place to watch birds of prey; marsh harriers and hobbies in summer, and hen harriers and peregrines in winter. There are no visitor facilities apart from the car park and a planned information board (there are public toilets on Eastgate and Station Road in Whittlesey).
Location
Eldernell Lane, WHITTLESEY, PE7 1RH
About the area
To the west of East Anglia is Cambridgeshire, a county best known as the home to the university that makes up the second half of ‘Oxbridge’ (the other half is Oxford). As well as its globally renowned educational credentials, it also has a rich natural history; much of its area is made up of reclaimed or untouched fens.
