Bourton-on-the-Water
Facing the road, leave the car park by turning right and following the broad path signposted to the village. Cut between stone walls to emerge in the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water. Cross the stone bridge over the River Windrush, turn right to The Old Manse Hotel, then immediately left, passing the Duke of Wellington pub. Shortly the road divides; take the path on the right (the Windrush Way) and follow the twisting path to a meadow. Take the riverside path, crossing the river at one point to reach the road.
Turn left and walk to the junction with the A429. Cross over the A429 and continue on the Windrush Way, keeping to the right of the river. Pass through meadows to a gate, and in the next field keep to its left boundary, all the way to a gate beside trees in the corner. Follow the path along a brief stretch of the former Cheltenham–Chipping Norton railway, and when it forks, keep right on the bridleway.
Continue beside farmland and through trees, and at the next path junction turn right to follow the Gloucestershire Way. Head uphill through trees, go through a gate and continue between fields. Some 50yds (46m) beyond the next gate, look for a gap in the hedge on the right and follow the path across farmland to the road. Cross over and follow the Macmillan Way between fields to a road junction.
Go straight over and down the lane between trees, following it into Lower Slaughter. At the junction cross the stone bridge over the River Eye, and then turn right, alongside the river. At the next road bridge, with The Slaughters Country Inn on your right and the church to the left, continue beside the river. After about 75yds (69m) take the path on the right, Wardens Way, towards Bourton-on-the-Water.
Follow the shaded riverside path, pass a path on the left and keep ahead. Continue towards the Fosse Way when the path runs alongside a stony track. On reaching the road, almost opposite the Coach and Horses pub, turn right to the traffic lights. Cross over and take the road for Bourton-on-the-Water. Disregard turnings left and right, pass an Oxfordshire Way sign and follow the road as it bends right. The car park where the walk began is on the right.
